The Crecy was one of the most decisive battles of the 100 Years War. After the battle of Sluys, Edward III landed in Normandy in July 1346 with about 10,000 men. The French pursued. Edward III decided to halt near Crecy in Normandy and to prepare for battle the next day. However, the French vanguard made contact and started to attack without the benefit of a plan. The French made as many as 15 attacks and the English checked each one in turn, primarily thanks to the English long bowmen. In the end, the French were decimated and the English had a decisive victory. The Crecy is one type of sword that would have seen service on both sides during the 100 Years War. Oakeshott describes the Type XVIa as having a long, tapering blade, broad at the hilt, with a sharp, often reinforced, point. The Crecy is a fine example of a later period epee de guerre, or war sword, a refinement of the earlier XIIa in response to changes in the armor of the period.

Be sure to check it as the box will likely have gotten banged around. The packaging isn't great by any means although the sword itself is well bubblewrapped. It just has a lot of room to move around inside. The peice on the end of the sheath where the sword goes in absolutely came off. This is apperantly their signature flaw as most of the reviews will tell you this. It was glued very poorly together so it isn't a surprise. The sword itself is awesome. Very heavy, pretty sharp. I was surprised at the amount of edge it really had. I would deffinately advise against children owning this. This is more of a cosplay, replica display piece. And perhaps a self defence weapon in dire situations. (Don't forget to clean your blade afterwards! LOL) Over all very happy with the purchase.Other than the sheath end coming off, it DID NOT come with a frog as described. You will need to make sure you have one if you wish to wear this. Get a quality leather one as this is hefty and will need the support.
